I got my oldest boy (15) a greenlight card, setting at 20 a week for allowance. The plan was to use this to teach him how to manage his money before he goes face to face with real banks. The problem I am facing is how to actually get him to try to manage anything, instead its "have money must spend" and "pay and pray." I am receiving around 12 declines a day when his balance is $0.64...I have tried 1. explaining how to manage money and why its important. He is annoyed and bored.rewarding the idea (13 weeks to have $130 saved up and he will get double allowance for 3 weeks.) Excited but at week 7 he has 10 dollars saved.adding in a decline fee (every time his card declines his next week's allowance will be 5 dollars less, 4+ declines in a week leaves no allowance.) This is his 2nd week at 0 allowance, he won't even bother checking his balance. At 18 yrs old (36 now) I was working every day just to pay the overdraft fees from the bank, I don't want him to do the same.None of these are working, any other ideas? via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2zY2ACs
