Help teaching an 8 year-old to read? She comes from a troubled childhood

It's a long story, and for personal reasons I don't feel like getting into it. But, my niece is 8 years old and still doesn't know how to read. She is a grade behind, and likely to be even more challenged with schools staying physically closed (though understandable). Online schooling is going to be a challenge for her no doubt, since she can barely read (almost not even at all).I have committed to tutoring her and trying to teach her, though I can't seem to make any progress. I need ways to make learning how to read FUN for her, because her attention span is very short and she gets frustrated easily. Let's just say she is a sore loser, and if she gets a word wrong, or anything like that, she gets upset and wants to stop trying.Any ideas on ways to help her learn, and teach her? Any helpeful apps, books, activities, etc? It would be greatly appreciated. It breaks my heart that she wants to know how to read so bad but doesn't.It is worth noting she knows her alphabet, and she can write all the letters. She doesn't know which sounds most letters make though, and she ESPECIALLY has difficulty when you combine two letters, like the sound "T" and "R" (Truck) makes. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/30yIolw
