Tween Does Everything Half-Assed

I have five boys. The oldest is twelve. Maybe because we did too much for him when he was younger (parenting guilt, am I right?!) but everything he does is sloppy. Tasks, schoolwork, hygiene, all done with little to no effort. We’ve been remote learning because of the big C. He needed to get at least a B in all his classes. Yes, remote learning is hard and there are a lot of fun distractions in our house, but he’s completely capable of a B. He was 3 points away from a B in one of his classes and had one more assignment to turn in. He did it so half assed that he brought his grade down! His teacher gave him two opportunities to correct it and he gave zero effort and got a C in the class. Now, it’s summer. He knew that a C meant no Xbox and no phone over the summer. I honestly thought this would be motivating enough to to a good job but I was wrong! It’s only been one day and he’s bored and restless. We can’t go anywhere because everything is closed. My instinct is to give him an “out” like, if he does this or that he can earn his privileges back. Is this kind of thinking what made him lazy? Will I be making it worse? Is this normal tween behavior that he’ll grow out of? Help me I’m clueless! via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/3gcxZ4F
