Not even 3 and she's already feeling the pressure of looking "the right way"

I try to interest this kiddo in media from many different sources, but naturally she loves things with Disney princesses in them. Books, things to paint, movies, whatever. She found Brave and Merida recently, and loves her because her hair is exactly the same: a wild forest of curls and beautiful red.Well, this last weekend we got her a Disney princess puzzle to do and she's been enjoying it until today she was walking around saying, "they took Brave away because she wasn't pretty!!" I had no idea where this came from, but eventually figured out that whoops, I got her a puzzle that doesn't have Merida in it (because thanks Disney, none of your toddler puzzles have her in them!).I didn't know she was already at the point of making these kinds of judgements based on someone's inclusion or exclusion. I don't think she's really making a connection to take it personally ("I look like brave I must not be pretty either"), but it's scary that she could be already having those kinds of thoughts planted into her subconscious as a 2 year old.How do you even fight this and build her confidence in herself? via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2WJbk7O
