Has this happened to any other step parents out there?

My girlfriend has twins, they just turned 5. I have been with her since they were 1.5 years old, so they really don’t know life without me. The twins dad gets them on his days off; Saturday when he gets off he gets them and we get them back on Monday night. My girlfriend also works Saturdays so the twins and I hang out all day. Today I went to drop them off to their dad. Normal weekly routine. This time, they both got out of the car, looked back at me, and lost it. They cried super hard and wouldn’t let me go. They told me (and their dad as he overheard) “I wanna go back home with you, I’m going to miss you too much” and got back into the car. Their dad was okay that they didn’t get to go with him so he didn’t force them to stay when they were upset. I don’t know where this came from or why. I was flattered of course, but did feel bad for their dad. Is that something that others have experienced? via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/34aDmNY
