So today while discussing with family members the fact that I chose “remote learning” for my children this year, I was told that I “need” to send my kids back to school because “they’re already socially inept and never leave your side and now you’re gonna homeschool them?!”Firstly, I’d like to start off by saying my daughter has diagnosed OCD. This comes with panic attacks and anxiety because of this she doesn’t like to leave my side. She’s also not crowd person. She plays just fine with one or two friends but while at parties (which is basically the only place we see the person who called them “inept” at) she doesn’t like to leave our side. She’s uncomfortable with people she doesn’t know. She’s 8 and I don’t find that strange. She also doesn’t like giving hugs, kisses, or being touched by people she doesn’t see often. I don’t force her to do it and my Italian side of the family thinks it’s strange that she’s not as affectionate as them (person who said they were inept is part of that side)Second, my son is 6. He hasn’t been diagnosed with OCD yet but we’re pretty sure it’s coming (luckily no panic attacks for him yet. My husband also has it so we know the signs). My son HATES parties and gatherings. Not sure why, he just isn’t a people person.Does this make my kids socially inept? I don’t think they interact strangely with others one on one. They play well and have friends? I don’t know why I am obsessing over this one comment i should just let it go but it’s really bothering me! via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/345wwJY
