How do I get my 2yo to take his medicine??

I'm a pretty stubborn guy (just ask my wife) but over the past week I've realised I've got nothing on my son and he's only 2! I've never felt so defeated in my life. My son has an iron deficiency and is supposed to take medication 3 times a day and it hadn't been a problem over the last couple of months, some days he'd need more convincing than others but on the most part it wasn't a big issue. However over the last few days he's just suddenly decided that he no longer needs the medication and he's just point blank refusing to take it. I've tried everything from bribes to threats to withholding treats but this kid just ain't budging and Im literally at breaking point now. My wife seems to think that we just leave him, we can't force him to have it and he'll probably decide after a day or two that he's fine with it again. I'm thinking if we just give up then he'll realise that we can't force him and he'll just refuse to take it every time.
