My father-in-law is very ill and my family (me, my husband, and our kids) recently had to move in with my in-laws in order to help take care of him. Yesterday our two year old son was watching me help my father-in-law get out of bed and he started crying hysterically. He is normally a very calm child so this was very unusual behavior for him. He was sobbing so hard and ran and hid under a pile of clothes. I held him until he calmed down and explained that granddad is sick and needs some extra help and love right now. I thought that would be the end of it, but ever since then he bursts into tears and runs away whenever he sees his grandfather. This has happened multiple times since we all live together and see each other constantly. I’m so lost on how to comfort him. Does anyone have any insight on what is going on in that sweet little toddler brain of his? Any suggestions for how to help him not be so afraid and sad around his grandfather? Any resources I should be looking in to or reading up on? If any one else has had a similar experience with their child, what helped for you? via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/3pA6vdz
