Babysitter Expectations

My husband (32) and I (35) are first time parents to a 2 year old daughter. Because of the pandemic we have not ever been able to leave our daughter with a babysitter. Now restrictions are being lifted and we plan on having a babysitter come by 2-3 times/week to help us out and give us a bit of a break so we can get some work and errands done (plus a date night every so often!). Being as we have never hired a babysitter before we don’t really know what to expect/what a babysitter is typically responsible for (outside of keeping our kid alive and cared for). Our 13 y/o neighbour will be babysitting and we will be paying her $12.50/hr CAD. I remember when I was growing up babysitting I would be responsible for watching the kids, cooking for them, and tidying up (obviously no deep cleaning, just cleaning up after the kids and myself, washing our dishes we made, etc.). I was kinda thinking those seem like fair responsibilities for a babysitter, but I don’t know if that is typical or fair? I am hoping to get other parents’ thoughts on this? Ideally those would be the responsibilities I would be happy with our babysitter taking on, but don’t want her to feel taken advantage of. I will also have a convo with her about her expectations as a babysitter as I definitely want this to be a mutually beneficial relationship. I know this might seem like a silly question, but I would really like to know how other parents navigate babysitting. TIA. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/3iOC42T
