My oldest son who is now 22 moved out about 1 1/2 years ago. Something happened that I didn't even see coming. The day after he moved... I was overcome with an absolute gut wrenching depression. For the following several weeks I was a complete train wreck with little support from my wife as she didn't suffer the same feelings as I had. As time went on I became accustomed to the new "normal" and feel I am doing better now however my daughter who is now 18 and graduated high school and will no doubt at some point in the next few years also move out. Just the thought of this sends waves of panic through me. I don't know if I can handle it a second time. Sometimes I feel this is an over reaction on my part because clearly peoples kids have been moving away from home for as long as people have been having kids. Having said that, I know that pain I felt when my oldest moved away and I'd like to not go through that again.
