Had a beach day today. Same beach I’ve been to all my life. Strange day of firsts

Me and my son take off to the beach when we can, it’s summer and we live in California so yeah. He’s 6 and likes structure so we did our usual lunch and beach date.Today before we entered the restaurant he wanted to walk the pier. Okay, we normally eat first and then walk the pier. At the end we looked into the estuary and he said mom how sad there’s trash in the water! I looked. It was a lone jellyfish floating along (he thought it was a baggie) Weird in itself because I’ve looked off that pier maybe thousands of times and not ever seen that.Anyway after lunch we’re at the beach riding the smaller waves it’s about knee deep to him and we see a shoal of fish come up right between our legs, again I’ve been at this beach all my life and never ever seen fish pushed ashore like that. And then it hit me. I grabbed my sons hand and said We gotta get out NOW. No predator was sighted but the pacific is murky and I knew the only thing that might push fish near the shore like that is a predator. I like to think it was a dolphin or a seal, but either way ya can’t be too safe. I’ve toiled 6 long years ya whatever it was ain’t taking my kid today. And there was an unusually strong rip current today too which is unusual for that beach.Okay then on the drive home we saw a deer in a glen off the highway where we’ve never ever seen one (I know, deers go in glens often) but we happened to see one after all the day we had and all the times we’ve never seen one there.Today was full of firsts and I don’t know what this means. It could be that we’re noticing the firsts of the changing environment or some other environmental factor that is pushing these animals into view where previously they were hidden. I have no idea but it was a weird day for us via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/3km322j
