I’m looking after my younger cousin (just turned 12) for the time being and I’ve come to notice she eats almost no fruits or vegetables.Whenever I cook a meal she’ll only eat the protein and starch components, neglecting the vegetable side.I tried mixing vegetables into the food (e.g., I made pasta primavera tonight) but she just picks around them. And I tried making fruit based desserts (strawberry shortcake, sherbet) but she just decided to skip dessert on those nights rather than eat the fruit.I don’t want to hide vegetables in food because that won’t help when she’s out on her own making dietary choices.I’m also hesitant to bring up the issue directly because she’s already plagued with body-conscious anxiety and it’s a struggle to get her to eat much of anything at all. (She has a wide array of non-produce foods she likes but she eats them in too small quantities.)I don’t want to give her an unhealthy relationship with food and as a new guardian I don’t yet have the authority to insist she try anything like I would if she were my own lifelong daughter. Are there any suggestions for fun snacks or mild meals that can help her get the necessary nutrients? I have not seen her eat a vegetable since she arrived here. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2VLLh2a
