Sorry for the long post. TLDR; my toddler has yet to start talking and I don't know what else to do to help him.I am a first time mom to a 16 month old and it just hit me that my son doesn't use any words at all. I need some advice on new ways to get him talking if possible. He has said momma a handful of times months ago and will rarely say dada but beyond that it's literally nothing. He does babble a LOT, all kinds of sounds, but the most common he uses is a kinda gasp/chirp noise to show he wants something or is excited. Like he will bring me his big bag of Legos and gasp/chirp at me until I open it.We read to him a lot, his favorite book is one full of animals and he will point them out and we will read the name to him, we sing with him, we are constantly talking to him and don't use any "baby" voices or words. I have tried getting him to mimic me, so if he hands me Legos to put together I will say "momma please" and when I give them back to him I say "thank you" to show him that's what he should be saying but he just looks at me like I'm crazy.I do know that he understands quite a bit. I can tell him to "go show dada" something and he will go find his dad and show him whatever he was carrying. Or I can ask him where his bottle or binky are and he will go find them and a lot of his toys and books but he just doesn't talk at all. He knows who everyone is and can go to the right person if you tell him "go get grandma".Is there something else we should be doing to get him to talk? He does have an early intervention/developmental nurse because he was in the NICU/children's hospital for a few weeks when he was born but she closed out his file when he turned one because he hadn't shown any delays yet. But she did tell me if we are worried any time before he is 3 to give her a call and she could open it again. Would it be worth it to call her or should we give him more time? I don't know what is "normal" or when I should really start to worry so any advice would be amazing! via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/3kw3OtC
