Do they grow out of co-sleeping?

So our toddler (22 months) was always a great sleeper and would take himself off to bed. A few weeks ago he started waking up in the night and coming into our room, where we would let him stay. About a week ago he just flat out refused to go to sleep in his bed/room and now I'm spending each night sitting with him until he falls asleep. My husband says he has no issue with him sleeping in our bed, and I'm not too bothered about it, but I'm worried he will never want to leave. So in your experience, do they eventually get sick of it and want more independence and to sleep alone?
