Drowning

I took my 3 year old to a public pool today. Shortly before they closed I heard a life guard blow the whistle several times and looked over to see him pulling a blue lifeless child out of the water. He had a lot of blood coming from his face, presumably from a lack of oxygen as it appeared to be coming from his nose with no other noticeable head injuries. The lifeguard put him at the edge of the pool and was looking him over, I assume to try and figure out where the blood was coming from. I yelled at him, he’s not breathing you need to do CPR! He then started CPR, I yelled out is there a doctor here, then a frantic woman came running over, it was his mother. She was beside herself and I just held her and tried to comfort her There’s obviously no comforting someone who’s seeing their 4 year old child without a pulse and not breathing but I did my best. I was so grateful when the little boy was revived and started crying and screaming for what felt like forever. I’ve never ever been so happy to hear a child cry in my life. There were so many people swimming in the area the boy drowned in and it just goes to show how easily and silently drownings can happen. As relieved as I am this had a good outcome it has left me feeling vulnerable to be witness to death just inches away. He technically was gone, no heartbeat and not breathing. Life can be drastically altered in the blink of an eye. Needless to say I’ve hugged my son extra tight tonight and am just so grateful the lifeguard saw this little boy floating and he was saved. This hit too close to home and my heart is a bit fragile tonight. Keep those kiddos within eyesight every second around pools. 💜 via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/3xQekPz
