If your kids need glasses and you're on Medicaid or something similar, here's my advice

Growing up I was poor and on Medicaid. My mom took me to the optometrist yearly to get my eyes checked out (starting at 7 years old).Every year I got new glasses because the "professionals" said my eyes had gotten worse -- that sweet sweet Medicaid money needs to go somewhere, right? As a kid, even I thought it was suspicious that every year, no matter what, my eyes got "worse." No one asked me how I felt. My mom and the optometrist just told me I needed new glasses, even though my prescription from last time felt fine to me. I was just a kid, I was afraid to say something. They're adults. They're experts... right???Please parents, talk to your kids. If their eyesight seems fine, don't go get new glasses just because Medicaid will cover it (and if they do get new glasses for whatever reason, try to have them wear the old prescription for a little longer before upping the lens-power).Now I wear very thick glasses and am left wondering about the past. Healthcare professionals in America prioritize profits over health after all. Of course, I am not a healthcare professional and this is not medical advice. In summary, if your kid wears glasses and they are on Medicaid, be suspicious of always needing new glasses. You can order the same prescription online for very, very cheap. Don't fall for their BS "expired" prescription tactic, that's just how they get you to do an eye exam and buy new glasses every year.People who have worn glasses since childhood, what are your thoughts? via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/3j9vjIz
