My kid is nearly 4 years old. She usually falls asleep between 8pm and 8:30pm (we start bedtime at 6:45/7pm). Her usual wake up time id 6am but she regularly wakes up at 3 or 4am and can’t get back to sleep. She usually wakes up, going to the toilet and then comes into our room to say she’s awake. I take her back into her bed and lie with or next to her for a good 30 minutes. During this time, she’s genuinely trying to sleep - lying still with her eyes closed. Sometimes I think she’s drifted off and I go to leave but she sits up and asks me where I’m going. After 30/45 minutes she’s getting really restless and upset at being confined to bed so we get up and go downstairs to play (our normal morning routine). This happens about twice a week. I’ve not noticed a pattern or trigger. Sometimes I offer her a banana to eat while we’re trying to go back to sleep in case she’s hungry. She’s always been a crap sleeper. Her bedtime routine is no screen time after about 5:30 (when I’m making dinner). Dinner at 6pm, play for 45 minutes or so, bath or shower, PJs, brush teeth, play time in bedroom (we’ve learnt that she gets post-bath zoomies and it may seem strange but this seems to work). Then she has story and we say good night and leave her to fall asleep in her own listening to lullaby music. She doesn’t nap, except for Fridays (she goes to preschool Tuesday-Thursday and is super tired on Fridays).I don’t know how normal these wake ups are, what age we should be expecting her to grow out of them, and what to do if she doesn’t. I don’t want to set her up with sleep issues for life. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/301rSwC
