I have a 13 month old boy whose words I’ve started to keep track of. He has about 21, over half of which he uses spontaneously, i.e. without being prompted. I read that most toddlers this age know about 2 words, half know a couple more. These were reputable sources but it seems low to me. Do you think that’s accurate, 2-4 words around 13 months? That’s my first question. I’ve always been interested in language and wanted to major in linguistics after high school so this is of particular interest to me.
