Why won't my newborn sleep?

I have a wonderful newborn who is almost 2 months. My little guy struggles with a lot of colic and doesn't fall asleep properly till late at night. However, he sleeps pretty soundly at night and will fall asleep quickly after his feeds. He will have a very long afternoon nap but after 5 or so, he catnaps and becomes overtired. He doesn't actually go to bed till midnight, despite out efforts to keep him on a schedule.What can I do to help him fall asleep faster and longer?
