My four year old can’t stop fidgeting when we practice his reading

Hi all! Wondering if anyone has seen this behavior before...My 4.5 (5 in nov) son has started the reading process. He is very excited when he gets a new word right and proud of himself that he has taken on a new task in life. While he reads tho.. he can’t stop fidgeting. It’s only when HE reads. If I read to him he is still. It’s almost like he’s embarrassed or something but I’m praising him the whole time. He is picking at his nails, moving his body constantly and will sometimes just give up if there are a couple words in a row he doesn’t know. I don’t pressure him to read but I also don’t love the idea of just letting him give up because of a couple hard words so we do finish the book. While we are in the car we are always learning to spell words and he willing sounds out words verbally and tries to spell them but doesn’t read and sound out the words. It’s like he’s so anxious when he reads to me but usually it’s his idea to read a book.Anyone else seen this before? via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/33OPwvQ
