We have been considering a phone for our oldest for a while now. We live in a very safe area and give our kids a lot of freedom to explore without us. This is common in our area. Most of the kids in our culdesac are allowed to play at the playground without a parent starting around kindergarten and first graders don't need a parent with them to walk to school. I am not worried about kidnappings or anything like that but my son has a seizure disorder. He can normally feel when a seizure is coming on and get himself to a safe position but I want to be contacted if he ever has a seizure while riding bikes with friends or by himself.My husband and I both said we would wait until 13 for a cell phone and he doesn't want to budge. Due to the pandemic it wasn't much of an problem because he was mostly just playing in our yard but lately we have been allowing him to ride bikes with a friend as long as they both keep their mask on so this issue has come back around again. Are their good cell phone alternatives? We want something that would easily allow a friend to contact us if he had a bad seizure and we needed to get there. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/37rNHoZ
