Teen Texting

Looking for some advice on my 16 year olds texting habits. My husband and I try to set appropriate boundaries and monitor his activities. He is a really good kid, as far as I know and we have not had any real problems with him at this point. His friends only want to text using Snapchat, which we will not allow him to have, or Instagram. I recently realized that the Instagram texting app is no better than Snapchat. His entire history is nothing but picture notifications that have disappeared. Apparently they take pictures and type their text messages into the picture. When they are open and read the picture disappears. For the life of me I do not understand this. It’s not easier, like he tried to tell me. You have to first take a picture and then type the text message and finally press send. I feel there is only one reason to do this and it is to hide your conversation from people. My husband does not seem to think this is a big deal. He asked me if my parents insisted on a listening to every phone conversation I had. I understand his point but I feel this different and it opens the door to too much temptation/dangers that he may not be ready for. Am I being unreasonable? via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/3nGjz0H
