Not sure if this is the best place to ask, but we are undergoing a custody battle and my son has a history of lying and anger management issues that I’d like to see addressed in therapy. However my ex is dead set on family therapy because she is mostly concerned with making my son go to “fix” their relationship which has been souring due to her withholding the kids, not listening to his needs, and just kind of plowing ahead with what she wants for custody. So we are trying to work out what type of therapist to get him...i am more interested in individual therapy that goes long term so he can learn healthy coping mechanisms and talk about the separation/custody without the ONLY goal being “i need to kiss and make up with mom”. I want them to have a good relationship but I feel there are deeper issues here.Is there a difference between family therapy and someone who specializes in child/teen therapy?
