My son is 8 years old and I tell him frequently how absolutely proud I am of him, he is a very bright kid and emphasis on education and hunger to learn has been quite a large part of our upbringing of him. However he has never learned how to ride a bike, throw a ball or things of that nature. I have tried in the past but his over controlling grandmother constantly put it in his head how dangerous things are and it has mortified him, I am trying to teach him how to swim and even though he can stand in the shallow end with his head above water he still is afraid of picking his legs up or letting go of me, I don’t ever force him or do anything that will scare him if we’re swimming i make sure to keep him comfortable because the second he feels afraid he’s completely done.I have tried over and over to assure him I will alway be there to keep him safe and wouldn’t let anything bad happen to him but his fears always come back into play.We also live in a very hot part of the US and we live in an apartment so we have to go to the park to practice but with how hot it is when we have time he gets drained quickly and it’s hard to practice in summer time.I love my children to death and want to make sure they live their fullest lives but I don’t know what else I can do to help him and teach him the basic thing in life without him being afraid. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/3hMIRsF
