My 16-month daughter goes to daycare Monday through Friday every week. When she is sick, she can’t go.I’m a legal assistant in a law firm in the real estate department. It’s the kind of job where my absence puts more pressure on my coworkers and my boss because - whether I’m there or not - deals that are scheduled to close have to close. We (me, daughter, husband) currently live with my mother, and she happens to be off work for health reasons. She has been our fall back for childcare. There has already been one occasion where my mom was unavailable and I needed a half day off to take care of the little one. Part of my discussion with my boss was that “childcare wasn’t [his] problem.” I mean, no, it’s not, but if I can’t find any I can’t come in. (Disclaimer: I generally really like my boss, and this comment threw me off a bit. He’s the kind of guy that has let me have breakdowns in his office when I get overwhelmed because of anxiety and stuff.)Little one is now sick again, and my mom had an appointment this morning. I’ll be going in late once my mom comes home. The kicker is that we are moving out next month to our own condo, and my mother will no longer be a reliable fall back option when little one can’t go to daycare.I’m considering asking my boss to have a work-from-home option for me when things like this happen. I may not be as 100% productive as when I’m in the office, sure, but isn’t 65% of the work better than none?I guess I’m just not sure how people usually handle these things. We’re first time parents here, and I’m not sure how much my employer has to accommodate issues like this. Ontario, Canada if that helps. Any feedback is helpful, even if the truth is that it really isn’t the employer’s issue. Thanks! via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/3BCSrVT
