My niece is a Bad liar!

My niece lies quite often. And it’s not lies as in, “I didn’t do that.” Or “It wasn’t me.” The lies she tells are immaculate. They are stories. For instance, this weekend she came to stay with me. She is 9 by the way. She has staples wrapped on her ear lobes (not actually puncturing them). She proceeds to tell me that she got her ears pierced. She told the story of how her mother and her went and spent the whole day together and had the best time and got her ears pierced. She told me that it hurt and that she only flinched a little. She even said the girls name that pierced them was Sarah. She showed me the cleaner that she needs to use on them and that she must clean them every two hours (it was a container that had a blue liquid in and upon further inspection, I realized it’s mouthwash). Not only does she go into immense detail, but she follows through. She literally set an alarm on her device and cleaned her ears every two hours. If she bumps her ears she says “owe, that hurt.” She had me absolutely convinced.I messaged her step mom and asked her if she did indeed have her ears pierced recently so that I could help her properly take care of them, only to be shocked at the reply. Her step mother assured me that she did not have her ears pierced and that this was a lie she has been telling for over a week now, With no consequences apparently. They go along with her and think it’s innocent. I, on the other hand, am quite worried about it and the extent in which she tells these lies. It’s to the point where she begins believing her own lies. Seems quite unhealthy to me. But I honestly don’t know how to approach the situation. Has anyone ever dealt with this and what would you do or say to the child/parents?? Is it even my place? via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2UUGprm
